One deranged man's view of 7july
Well, you know the old saying "if
you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!", Screw that! I went to the
show at Fiddler's on the Green 6/18/99, looking to have a good time and see some of the
old faithful followers and new comers, chug down some icy cold beverages, and get blown
away listening to my favorite jams! Instead what I got was a 70 year old guy with one
tooth drunk off his ass, gumming a piece pizza, and wanting to gum on jim & craig's
wives hovering around. A 50 year old thing dressed in a black mini with a (blech!), see
through lace top acting like she's 18 again. As for the rest of the people, local
alcoholics, and one of the bands faithful followers (thanks anne!).
Almost cold beer, (cold enough to
drink, but not enjoy to the fullest extent of the beverages capabilities).
The band sounded great, and
seemed to be in the mood to make the best of situation, the first set was good music, but
too slow tempoed, one after another after another! Don't get me wrong, it was good eating,
but just not spicy enough to grab my attention, so why should it get these locals taste
buds. Maybe a little switch in the song list would be in order, you know kick it up a few
notches (bam!), Couple of slow tempo, then a couple of face smashers once their warmed up
alittle. The second set was better as far a tempo, but i can remember when these guys
would crank it up and hold it to the floorboard for 5 or 6 songs before coasting, the
crowd started to build a little, and actually showed signs of life when the band picked up
the pace. Oh! Did I mention that the stage was the size of postage stamp, although his
guitar could be heard, Carl was M.I.A., and if Jim stepped to the side you could actually
see Craig sitting in the dark beating it. The third set was much better, they took of the
dresses and started bitch slapping the place!
It was a good show, not a vintage
7july show, but I guess it's kind of hard to get it up when the place has a 20 people in
it, and most of those people are too drunk to hear anyway. My suggestion,
"never" , and i mean 'never" play that place again! I think it zapped the
bands energy. Throw in some more fast tunes, (the band looks like it's having fun when you
play them!) Plus it gets people moving!
Well you asked for it, how's it
smell! Looking forward to the next show, keepin' the faith hooooochieeee maaaaamaaaa!
